About the shop
Gentle is the whole
reason I do this.

I run Maple Street Grooming on my own, and that is on purpose. It means the same pair of hands does the whole job, and it means I can give a dog my full attention instead of splitting it across a room.
Most of the dogs I see are fine. Some are not — and the ones who are not are the reason this shop looks the way it does. A dog who has been hurried through a groom before will arrive already braced for it. Loud dryers, a strange pair of hands, a chain of other dogs waiting. You can see it in their eyes and in the way they refuse to stand.
So we do it differently here. Warm water and quiet voices. Plenty of time. A break when a dog needs a break, and no wrestling over a paw that does not want to be touched yet. If the first visit is only a bath and a good brush-out because that is all your dog can handle, that is a successful visit. We will get further next time.
What people tend to tell me afterwards is not that the haircut is neat — though I do try. It is that their dog came home calm, went straight to sleep, and was not afraid of the car the next time. That is the part I care about.
“A nervous dog is not a bad dog. It is a dog that has not been given enough time yet.”

What gentle actually means here
A quiet room
Soft voices, warm water, and a space that does not clatter. Dogs settle faster without a soundtrack of dryers.
One-on-one attention
One dog at a time, start to finish. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing gets skipped because the clock ran out.
Patience, not force
If something needs a break, it gets a break. Slow is faster than a fight, every single time.
